CHALLENGE :

Study the air flow pattern in National Grand Theatre in Beijing to design the ventilation system. Finding the optimise locations for air supply and exhaust systems, and provide thermal comfort and proper air ventilation for audience in the theatre. Study is done under various environmental conditions i.e. the isothermal, operation in summer sunlight conditions and operation with heating in winter.

APPROACH :

The structured mesh is used. Depending on the opening direction of the galleries, various injection and extraction  location which are source and sink respectively in the CFD Problem. Inputs and heat losses are because of convection heat transfer related to the temperature difference between the walls and the air in the hall. The air is considered incompressible. For more accurate results turbulence flow in considered with k-e model. Different weather conditions  like extreme hot( summer ) and extreme cold( winter ) are considered.

FINDINGS :

Depending upon the weather condition, find the efficient location of air supply and exhaust location to maintain the comfortable atmosphere inside the theatre.
